I endeavor to capture the beauty and essence of nature and people in my exquisitely rendered, realistic paintings. Using subtle values of light, vibrant color, and harmony in related forms, I create an experience for viewers to witness the natural beauty within, as well as the beauty surrounding them. We recognize beauty because it is something that is innately within us.
As a self-taught artist, my artistic talent was recognized and encouraged at an early age by my uncle Conway Policastro, who was also a self-taught artist and architect. My adored uncle was meticulous in his own work and set a high standard that guides my work to this day. Teaching me about perspective and utilizing values and shading, my uncle helped me to see and represent the world in all its richness.
As successful entrepreneur, I practiced drawing and painting throughout my life as time allowed, gathering the techniques I use for oil painting along the way, but I must admit a personal truth here, because of being a perfectionist, and having low self-esteem, I stopped drawing and painting for 25 years. Now that I'm much more confident in myself and I'm retired, I am able to focus on my artwork. I also play the role as a Self-Awareness Coach empowering people to live their dream, which also influences my work, helping me to reflect on and examine any blocks I may encounter on my artistic journey. I will continually endeavor to create art that enriches those that view my work.
My home and studio are in West Orange, New Jersey.
